Materials, functional surfaces and processes development
The ever increasing need for high performance materials in order to satisfy the technological requirements of the modern life constitutes the driving force of new materials development. Advances in the development of new materials result often from the interdisciplinarity of materials science and engineering, in particular from the application of new processes requiring a good knowledge of all the mass and energy transfer mechanisms entering a material synthesis. A key goal of our Division is to take part in crucial topics of material science such as
thin film growth, design and synthesis of advanced materials and to understand, control and improve their properties. Cold
plasmas processes are the main technology used for materials production and processing. |

| | CHARACTERIZATION
Surface sciences
FCS knowledge space from morphological to elemental and chemical characterization, from mechanical and tribological characterization of surface properties on a micro- and nanometer scale. Our capability cover a national and international role in developing analytical methodologies for last generation
microelectronic surface techniques directly connected with main world industrial company. Besides we acquired a large experience, taking advantage of integrate methodologies, for in-situ analysis and for physical-chemical and biological characterization methodologies on
organic/biologic samples. |

| | INTERACTION NIR and NIR vs biosistems Strong is also our national and international role in developing theoretical and experimental methodologies applied to the study of interaction between non-ionizing electromagnetic fields (NIR Non Ionizing Radiation) and biosystems, with its environmental and sanitary implications. Environmental impact and the potential detrimental effects on the
human health of non ionising electromagnetic sorces in on study. |
